In preparation for the upcoming conference, ALYIG media interviewed the 77th Speaker of the House, Bethany Yin. To learn more about what makes her and the House so special, we asked Bethany a few questions. Read her responses below!
What is your role at the upcoming conference?
“I’m the Speaker of The House, which means I preside over the House to make sure debate runs smoothly and efficiently. I also work with the other House officers to make the House the best chamber ever!”
What are you most excited for this upcoming weekend?
“I am most excited to see everyone together again and really enjoying my time at this conference. I’m a senior, so it will be my last one.”
What is your favorite aspect of this program?
“Of course I love the people, and so many of my favorite memories center on Youth Legislature. But, honestly I love watching debate too and debating myself because watching myself and others channel our passion into a productive manner to try to incentivize charge –
even if we are only debating mock proposals. Leg is probably the reason I want to be a lawyer and pursue that career.”
What kind of activities do you do outside of school?
“I am a part of a symphonic band, marching band and participate in lots of speech and debate.”
What is your favorite song right now and why?
“Rockstar Boyfriend” by Malcom Todd is SO good. It is so upbeat, which is a nice juxtaposition to this winter weather.”
