At Saturday’s opening session, 2014-2015 Alabama Youth Governor Cassie Sadie expressed how ecstatic she was about the record-setting turnout of participants – more than 600 – for the 2014 season of Youth Judicial.
First off, don’t get wrapped up in the competition, the youth governor said. She told of how this is a perfect opportunity to make new acquaintances and learn about our country’s federal system. This rigorous challenge offers countless new opportunities for its attendees. In her opening statements, Sadie put forth the three key components of making this Youth Judicial experience the best one yet. First of all, she informed all participants that they needed to have confidence in both themselves and their teammates. Her second key to enjoying this event was that the participants should all branch out of their comfort zones and make new friends. After all, Sadie said, while we may be opposing one another in court, we can still be friends at the same time.
If you ever run into her in the elevator, dining hall or wherever, the youth governor invites you to stop and say hello so she can meet you. Sadie lastly encouraged delegates to follow all social media networks and to use the hashtag, #alyig, for the Alabama Youth in Government Program.
Most importantly, Sadie stressed that all participants need to have fun and enjoy this extravagant opportunity.
Judge Gabi Pohlman of the Montgomery Academy introduced the youth governor.
